IMMIGRATION REQUIREMENTS

All participants must hold passports, which are valid for at least six months after arrival and have proof of either onward or return journey tickets.

For participants of other countries, visas are required and can be obtained from Indonesian embassies or consulates overseas.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

International health certificates for smallpox and cholera are not required.  Evidence of valid yellow fever vaccinations are only required from travelers coming from infected areas.

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

Carrying narcotics, arms and ammunitions, TV sets, radio/radio cassette recorders, photography objects/publications are strictly prohibited.  Offenders are subjected to strict and severe punishment.  Advance approval has to be acquired for bringing in transceivers.  All movie films and video cassettes will have to be deposited for review by the Indonesian film Censor Board.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE

The Indonesian currency is called the rupiah (Rp).  The exchange rate fluctuates and is currently around Rp 9,570 to US 1.00 as of 31 July 2001.

WEATHER

The weather in Jakarta in September is warm.  The temperature ranges on average from 27 C to 32 C and humid.

Dress is informal and light clothing is advisable due to the hot and humid climate.  However, a jacket and tie are required for formal occasions and when making official calls.  Batik shirt or national dress is acceptable for evening occasions.  Very casual attire such as shorts and halter-tops is not considered proper except in sports facilities and on the beach.
