
| PRESS RELEASE No.5/PHM/IX/04 INDONESIA AND AZERBAIJAN SIGNED
On 23 September 2004, at 15.30 local time in New York, Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Dr. N. Hassan Wirajuda and his counterpart, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and Consultation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries. Both the Ministers commended the cordial relationship between the two countries and shared the conviction that the conclusion of the Memorandum of Understanding will enable Indonesia and Azerbaijan to further enhance their mutual cooperation. It serves as modality to have better coordination and consultation on various regional and global issues to promote the mutual interest of the two countries. With a view to attaining this objective, the Ministers concurred to hold regular discussion on those issues of common concern. The Ministers also shared conviction that it can be achieved through the sharing experiences from exchange of visits of officials of the two countries, the convening of seminars and training for the implementation of various projects. The Memorandum of Understanding also contains provisions for the establishment of ad-hoc working groups that upon agreement between the two countries may be entrusted to discuss practical ways for deepening existing bilateral cooperation.
