The Indonesian Ad Hoc Human Rights Court Finds Indonesian General Guilty on Timor Violence.

In its verdict of 5 August 2003, the Indonesian Ad-hoc Human Rights Court found Major General Adam Damiri, former Regional Commander of Military IX Udayana, guilty of serious human rights violations in connection with the violence that surrounded East Timor's 1999 popular consultation and sentenced him to three years in jail.

Ms. Emmy Marni Mustafa, chief judge of the Ad-hoc Human Rights Court at Jakarta District Court stated that General Damiri had failed to prevent or stop several attacks and chaos that took place in Dili, although he had the authority and prior information about them.

Major General Adam Damiri is one of the 18 suspects brought to trial in the Ad-hoc Human Rights Court on charges relating to crimes against humanity in East Timor (now known as Timor Leste) in 1999.
