The Indonesian Military Tribunal found
Three Soldiers Guilty in Aceh
The Indonesian military tribunal found that three soldiers are guilty
in Aceh and sentenced them to four months and 20 days in jail. In its
verdict of 9 June 2003 the military tribunal found that First Officer
(Pratu) Saiful Bahri, Second Officer (Prada) Toni Nariyanto and Second
Officer (Prada) Agus Hidayat are guilty by a military judge Major CHK.
Hulwani and they have also an obligation to pay a certain amount to
the court.
They have been charged in relation to an incident in Lawang, in Bireun
district on 27 May 2003. Related to that incident, they were guilty
of violation article 351 verse 1 and/or article 53 verse 1 of the Indonesian
Penal Code (KUHP) and article 103 verse 1 of the Indonesian Military
Penal Code (KUHPM) in conjunction with article 55 verse 1 of the Indonesian
penal code (KUHP).
Nangroe Aceh Darrusalam (NAD) Province, is currently under the integrated
operation including a martial law after the separatist mqvement (GAM)
failed to implement the COHA (Cessation of Hostilities Agreement) such
as the acceptance of the NAD Law within the framework of the Unitary
State of the Republic of Indonesia and the placement its weapons. With
the Integrated Program which consist of four operations namely security
restoration operations, humanitarian operations, law enforcement operations
and operations to improve the effectiveness of local administrations,
the Government of Indonesia is taking serious step not just dealing
with the separatists but also and military who doesn't follow the rule.
