The Former MFA Ali Alatas Visited New York The former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Alatas in his capacity as Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia was in New York from 10-14 March. He met with the appropriate UN High Officials including the UN Secretary General, the Administrator of UNDP, and the Special Coordinator of UNOSCAL. Mr. Alatas discussed the forthcoming meeting of the First Asian-African Sub Regional Organization Conferences (AASROC) which is schedule to be held in Bandung, Indonesia, 16-17 April 2003. The meeting will be co-hosted by Indonesia and South Africa and will coincide with the 48th anniversary of the historical Asian-African Conference in Bandung in 1955. The second AASROC will be convened in South Africa in April 2004. Thus, it would be opportune and indeed expected that these conferences will culminate at the planned commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of the Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia in April 2005.
