Indonesia’s voluntary contribution to the UNICEF for the year 2004

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia had just rendered a voluntary contribution to the UNICEF for the year 2004 in the amount of US$ 100,000.00 (one hundred thousand US dollars). The same amount of contribution was also pledged by the Government of Indonesia in the year 2003.

Indonesia believes that the availability and predictability of the regular resources are essential for the UNICEF. A sustained availability of funding will allow UNICEF to implement its programmes which address the long-term needs of children and mothers in developing countries.

Indonesia has remained an active participant in various activities relating to the promotion of welfare of children and protection on their rights. In May 2003, Indonesia hosted the East Asia and Pacific Ministerial Meeting on Children, in Bali, which produced a Bali Consensus. The Bali Consensus provides various agendas for regional cooperation with the aim of enhancing the quality of the lives of children in the coming years.

UNICEF’s programme to Indonesia in the year 2001-2005 as depicted in the document : A Country Strategy for Children and Women gives priority to the areas of among others, enhancing the quality of children’s and women’s health; prevention and curing various children’s diseases; enhancing social and legal facility for the protection of children; and enhancing humanitarian assistance programmes for the victims of natural disasters, by particular for providing rapid response to the needs of children.
