- Jamaica Bilateral Relations
Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and Jamaica were officially established
on the 17th of December 1981
Economic
Relations
Since
that time, both countries have enhanched their relationship particularly
in the field of economics. For this purpose, they have signed a number
of cooperative agreements. One such agreement entitled, the Basic Agreement
for Economic, Scientific and Technical cooperation was signed on 21
January 1994 in Kingston, Jamaica.
In
September 1996, the joint Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical
cooperation was established. On the occasion of the G-15 Summit in Montego
Bay 9-12 February 1999, the two countries signed an agreement on thr
protection of investment.
In
May 2001, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of both countries met in
Jakarta and discussed their Economic and Trade relationships and established
a joint Commission for these purposes.
The
Goverment of Jamaica has recently assigned Mr. Samuel Pardede as the
Jamaica Honorary Consul for Indonesia.
In May 2001, Jamaica's export and Investment Agency (JAMPRO) and its
National Agency for Export Development (NAFED) signed a Memorandum of
Understanding on technical cooperation in the fields of Information
Technology, and Handicrafts which are to be promoted through Trade Exhibitions,
etc.
Social
Relations
On
12 September 1997, the Government of Indonesia extended humanitarian
assistance to the Jamaican Government in the amount of US 10.000 to
help with the causalities of the Gilbert Hurricane.
Cultural
Relations
On
26 january 1997, Indonesia sent a Cultural Mission to Kingdom, jamaica
for the purpose of introducing a glipmse of Indonesia's culture to the
people of Jamaica.
