- Former MFA Ali Alatas Visit the
Mission, 11 March 2003

The
former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Alatas held a meeting at the
Indonesian Mission to the United Nations with the home staff members of
the Mission and the Indonesian Consulate General on Tuesday, 11 March
2003.
Mr. Ali Alatas, in his capacity
as Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia was in
New York from 10-14 March. He met with the appropriate UN High Officials
including the UN Secretary General, the Administrator of UNDP, and the
Special Coordinator of UNOSCAL.
Mr. Alatas discussed the forthcoming meeting of the First
Asian-African Sub Regional Organization Conferences (AASROC) which is
schedule to be held in Bandung, Indonesia, 16-17 April 2003.

- Interactive Dialogue with Human
Rights Watch, 05 February 2003

The
Indonesian Mission to the United Nations invited Human Rights Watch to
hold an interactive dialogue on human rights issues, at its mission on
Wednesday, 05 February 2003. Mr. Brad Adams (Executive Director), Mr.
Rory Mungoven ( Director Advocacy) and Ms. Charmin Mohammad ( Researcher)
involved in fruitful dialogue with home staff members, including Ambassador
Slamet Hidayat, who chaired the dialogue.

- Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement
Working Group on Disarmament, 20

|   In
preparation for the XIII Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia, on 20-25 February 2003, the Non-Aligned Movement Working Group
on Disarmament has been tasked to discuss the draft Final Document for
the Summit focusing in particularly on the issues of international security
and disarmament. For this purpose, Indonesia, as the Coordinator of the
Working Group, has hosted a series of meetings at its Mission from 20
to 22 January 2003.

- Briefing
for US students , 20 January 2003
|
|   As
part of their curriculum, US students take UN model classes, in which
they act as a representative of a UN member country, such as Indonesia.
In this connection, every year the Permanent Mission provides hundreds
of US students with current affairs and various aspects of Indonesian
life and history. In addition, as part of its public information programme
outreach, home-staff members of the Permanent Mission regularly visit
campuses across the United States to discuss with students basic positions
on various issues under discussion at the United Nations, and to provide
general information on Indonesia.
