Transcript of the press statement on Palestine by the President of the Security Council, 29 November 2007

Actually no formal thing to be shared at this time except some index factual that we had consultation on the Middle East and we’ll continue again tomorrow morning. But I don’t know if any question that to be raised.

Q-A:

Q: …the nature of the resolution and its significance to this agreement….?

A: You know that I don’t have the liberty to share the dynamic in the Council except to share that we had convened this informal consultation earlier this afternoon in the respect to the development to the post Annapolis conference. We thought it’s rather timely to put the Council to take stoke where we are and how we feel after Annapolis and hopefully tomorrow after the briefing that we will be having from the Secretariat we will be able to see if there is a collective Council view on the subject matter. Certainly as far as we are concerned as President of the Council we feel that it’s very important for the Council to express its view collectively on the subject matter.

Q: Ambassador, is there any future fight or dispute or any thing heated at any moment?

A: I am afraid that I will disappoint if you are looking for dispute or fight. Because…I am not saying that it was discussion that was marked by common sense of wanting to have a good Council response to Annapolis. I think all Members of the Council are in recognizing of the significance or the potential significance of Annapolis and want to be sure that the Council is able to respond in a constructive fashion (?) to the Annapolis. So surely there wasn’t any strong dynamic in the Council in term of differences. On the contrary, I think there was sense of unity. And as the President of the Council actually I was so happy to see, because our job is to make sure that the Council speak on one voice on various issues interests, and you could imagine that there is no more issue that is more important than Palestine and the Middle east at this time.

Q: Are there any other issues…just now?

A: It was quite cordial and very productive meeting I am sure.

Thank you very much!
